Oita Marine Palace Aquarium “Umitamago”: Relax watching sea creatures in an open-air aquarium with a great ocean backdrop.

On sunny days, you can experience the openness of the outdoors by watching walrus and dolphin shows with a spectacular ocean view in the background.
The performance by the walrus, the most powerful performer in Umitamago, will make you laugh out loud with the trainer, and the feeling for the dolphins inspire this truly masterful performance.

After the performance, children have the opportunity to touch the walruses directly during petting time!
The dolphins’ jumps are also very exciting because the distance between the audience and the pool is very close!
There are also limited-time-only events such as feeding sessions, so we recommend that you check the website in advance to check the time schedule of each show.
The “ASOBEACH” is a popular place for children and adults alike to get up close and personal with sea creatures.
You can see dolphins swimming freely in the pool and various creatures in their natural state as they stroll about. While enjoying the beach barefoot, visitors can get up close and personal with dolphins and other animals. The pool is sparklingly beautiful when the sun shines on it, and you can watch the dolphins swimming happily the whole time.
In the “Beppu Bay Pool,” there is an aquarium that blends into the beautiful Beppu Bay. Visitors can get deeply involved in Oita’s marine life.
The main indoor tank, the “Great Migration Tank,” is home to 1,500 fish of 90 species, allowing visitors to see the powerful movements of the fish up close.
In the “Coral Tank” of live coral, divers feed friendly Napoleon fish and others while explaining the process. The underwater camera provides interesting explanations while taking close-up photos of live coral.
In the “Fish Production” area, you can see amazing performances by fish, such as acrobatic tricks by a sea bream and a Porcupinefish, an electric discharge experiment by a lantern eel, and water shooting by a long-nosed salamander.
The jellyfish tank in the “Wonder Zone” is so beautiful. The lights change to various colors such as red, yellow, and green, so you may end up taking a lot of pictures!
The food court on the first floor serves local cuisine such as toriten (chicken tempura), set menus, noodles, etc., and there is also a café on the second floor with a great view. (Facilities are subject to change).
The store also offers unique souvenirs such as “Paku Paku Socks,” which are designed to look as if a fish has snatched your leg.
In the vicinity, there is also the “Takasaki Mountain Nature Zoo” for monkeys, the famous Beppu Hot Springs, and “Umitama Experience Park Tsukumi Dolphin Island,” a sister facility of Umitama, about an hour’s drive away. Why not take plenty of time to enjoy sightseeing in Oita?
