10:50 Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine (40 minutes)

“Kamishikimi Kumanoza Shrine” is characterized by its mystical approach lined with approximately 100 stone lanterns. It is also known as a sacred site for the famous anime “Into the Forest of Fireflies’ Light,” attracting many tourists from around the world. As you ascend the approach, a mysterious atmosphere spreads out, as if you’ve wandered into another world.
12:20 Amanoiwato Shrine (1 hour 10 minutes, including Amanoyasugawara)

“Amanoiwato Shrine” enshrines Amanoiwato, believed to be the origin of Japanese mythology. According to mythology, the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami hid herself in a rock cave, plunging the world into darkness and crisis. Through the efforts of the gods, the rock cave was opened, and light returned to the world.。

“Amanoyasugawara” is located about a 10-minute walk along the Iwato River from Amanoiwato Shrine West Main Shrine. This large cave, where it is said that Yaoyorozu no Kami (eight million gods) gathered to discuss when Amaterasu Omikami hid in the rock cave, causing the world to become dark, is a quiet, solemn, and mystical space.

Takachiho Gorge was formed in ancient times by volcanic eruptions from Mount Aso. Cliffs soar on both sides, and the 17-meter-high Manai Falls create a spectacular view. A walking path of about 1km is maintained along the gorge. Enjoy a stroll amidst the nature of Takachiho Gorge.
