Hello there!
I’m Nyata, a Tsushima leopard cat and the mascot of Enjoy Kyushu♪ Today, I’ll introduce my beloved hometown, Tsushima!

対馬の浅茅湾

Tsushima is a border island located between Kyushu and the Korean Peninsula.
About 90% of the island is covered in forests, and there are countless breathtaking scenic spots!
With crystal-clear seas, intricate coastal inlets, and geological formations once featured on Buratamori, the island is truly rich in natural blessings.
And that means—
both seafood and mountain delicacies are absolutely delicious♪

En: “That’s right! I once had conger eel in Tsushima, and it was amazing!!! Not just grilled with sauce or salt, but even as sashimi—it was so fresh you could enjoy it that way!”

Nyata: “I love conger eel cutlets (deep-fried)! The crispy coating and the thick, juicy eel inside are just irresistible!”

En: “And I also loved ‘Ishiyaki,’ where large abalone and turban shells are grilled on heated quartz porphyry stones! Tsushima’s seafood is all so delicious!”

Nyata: “Exactly! Thanks to the Tsushima Warm Current flowing north along both coasts, you can enjoy seasonal seafood all year round.”

En: “It’s truly a bountiful sea♡”

Shu: “My favorites are ‘Taishū soba’ and Japanese honeybee honey! Because Tsushima is so mountainous and land transport was historically limited, old traditions have been preserved for centuries. Taishū soba is a prime example. Buckwheat was introduced to Japan in the late Jōmon period, and while varieties have evolved across the country, Tsushima still produces buckwheat close to the original strain.”

En: “Wow! It’s amazing that you can still taste something from the Jōmon period!”

Shu: “The original strain has small grains and a strong aroma.”

En: “Sounds so energizing—I bet it gives you a boost!”

Shu: “Traditional beekeeping methods are also still practiced, producing rich and fragrant Japanese honeybee honey. There’s also a unique fermented food made from sweet potatoes, and even noodles made from it.”
