The zoo offers a variety of events, including “Let’s Ride an Elephant” and “Walking with Elephants” (both available only on weekends and holidays), where visitors can experience Asian elephants up close. It also features the graceful “Flamingo Show” with about 70 flamingos, and a “Goat March”.
Located on a 140,000-square-meter hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the zoo features 1,200 animals of about 100 species from around the world, including lions, Masai giraffes, Sumatran tigers, red pandas, capybaras, and Eurasian otters.
The park also features an Asian elephant exhibit, Africa Garden, Chimpanzee Forest, and Children’s Animal Village. Feeding the small animals and interacting with the small animals is also popular.
In the amusement park area, visitors can enjoy 13 types of playground equipment, including Super Dumbo, Mad Mouse, Merry-Go-Round, Space Dragon, go-carts, a fairy train, and a monorail.
For a limited time in summer, visitors can also play in the “Flowing Pool,” which also has a water slide.
There are also restaurants, stores, an animal information plaza, and a common space, so visitors can stay for a whole day and have a lot of fun.
Next to the zoo is the Phoenix Seagaia Resort, one of the largest resort complexes in Kyushu, which also has a prestigious golf course, the Phoenix Country Club.
Other nearby tourist spots include “Florentte Miyazaki,” a botanical park with beautiful seasonal flowers and greenery that is fantastically decorated with lanterns in summer and illuminations in winter, and “Sun Beach Hitotsuba,” where you can also go swimming and picnicking.
If you travel further in, you will find the famous Takachiho Gorge, Takachiho Shrine, Aoshima Shrine, and many other sights.
In Miyazaki, a treasure trove of rich foods, you can enjoy food from the sea and the mountains, Miyazaki beef, and Miyazaki’s famous shochu (distilled spirits).
Have a relaxing stay in Miyazaki and visit various sightseeing spots while enjoying it’s many charms!
