Nokonoshima Island is a popular destination for a short day or weekend trip, even among those already living in the city of Fukuoka.
It takes anywhere from about 30 minutes to an hour to reach the ferry terminal from within the city of Fukuoka.
After boarding the ferry, it takes about 10 minutes to reach the island of Nokonoshima.
After a mere 10-minute ferry ride, you will notice that the scenery changes dramatically.
From the ferry terminal, it is a 13-minute bus ride to Nokonoshima Island Park. (During peak season, the ferry and buses operate a temporary additional service).
Nokonoshima Island Park, located on the northern tip of Nokonoshima Island, a 12-km island in Hakata Bay, has a nature park with approximately 30 varieties of seasonal flowers blooming throughout the year.
Here you can enjoy beautiful flowers all year round: rape blossoms, cherry blossoms, and poppies in spring, sunflowers in summer, cosmos and autumn leaves in fall, and daffodils in winter. Many people visit the park to enjoy the flowers and photography during the rape blossom, cherry blossom, and cosmos seasons.
The park also has an adventure park, a mini zoo, and a grass sledding course where you can slide down a slope on a special sled. The park also offers fun classes such as making pottery with or without a pottery wheel, as well as painting ceramics.
One activity you simply have to try is “Nokonokoball,” the island’s own original sport played on 9 courses surrounded by flowers and greenery using clubs and balls similar to those used in gateball.
There are a total of 10 detached cottages located around a flower garden overlooking Hakata Bay.
This is the perfect place for a workcation, as you relax amidst the peace and quiet of nature.
